Afternoon EqualiTEA

In celebration of Woman’s History Month, the Lucy Burns Museum will host Afternoon EqualiTEA to honor the suffragists and their fight for the right to vote. Tea and tea parties are deeply ingrained in the history of the woman’s suffrage movement, from planning to fundraising. Tea enthusiast Nancy Rodriguez of Cup & Crown shares the history of tea from England to the US and how the suffragists incorporated it into their cause, while participants enjoy a variety of black teas and sweet* accompaniments. A special tour of the Lucy Burns Museum, with its exhibition commemorating the suffragists who were imprisoned at the Workhouse in 1917, follows the tea. Teas served – Assam tea is grown in India and popular among tea drinkers for more than 200 years. It has a rich, strong, and malty character with a deep amber color. Its caffeine content tends to be slightly higher than other black teas. Crème de la Earl Grey combines the timeless citrus flavor of Earl Grey tea with delicious and aromatic Madagascar vanilla. This Ceylon tea has smooth, comforting flavors that lend it a creamy quality and lighten the Bergamot orange notes of this traditional beverage. Decaffeinated English Breakfast gives a full-flavored, medium body taste. The most popular of teas imbibed in the Europe and the U.S. is English Breakfast tea. It is traditionally blended with leaves sourced from estates in Kenya (Africa), Celyon (India), an Assam (India). *Please note that the baked sweets served contain wheat, dairy, eggs, and other allergens. At this time we are unable to make substitutions to accommodate dietary restrictions.
