Allergy Advocacy Awards

Join us for our annual fundraising Allergy Action Awards. Our Halloween-themed Zoom event will be hosted by the intrepid Brenda Tremblay of WXXI-FM Classical 91.5. As you'll see below, this year's honorees have done and continue to do amazing work for those suffering from life-threatening allergies in Monroe County and beyond. We'll be joined by magician and mentalist Gary Ferrar for a hysterical virtual performance full of unexpected moments and unique effects. Gary has appeared on NBC, USA, and the Travel Channel, and is excited to blow our minds.

This year the Dr. John J. Condemi Award will go to Sandra Glantz, MSN, FNP. While retired from active practice, Ms. Glantz continues her impact as a regular contributor and presenter of the Epi Near You New York. As a medical professional diagnosed with life-threatening allergies as an adult, she brings a very unique and personal perspective to the importance of broad-based availability of epinephrine and lots of community members who know how to use it. The John J. Condemi Award is given to medical professionals doing work to expand awareness of allergies and how to treat them as well as advocacy to ensure access to epinephrine however and wherever needed.

The 2022 Ruth T. Cornell Award will be awarded to Thomas Silvera and Dina Hawthorne, founders of the Elijah-Alavi Foundation. Their work began after the 2017 passing of their son, Elija due to a food allergen given to him while at daycare. Through their foundation, they are working state by state to put in place the legislation and funding necessary to put epinephrine auto-injectors in every childcare situation. This is already a requirement in New York and will soon be fully implemented in Illinois. The Ruth T. Cornell Award is given to those outside the medical community who have a significant impact on their community.

Building on the generosity of our contributors and sponsors, you can support our work and the Epi Near You New York program of broad-based availability of education and epinephrine to support those in our community managing life-threatening allergies.
