Garden Speaker Series - Designing Delight

Explore the enchanting world of Buffalo’s gardens in this presentation of quirky, one-of-a-kind designs by gardeners who incorporate found art, offbeat ideas, and much humor into their small space gardens. Be inspired by creative landscapes, inventive use of plants, and eye-catching projects. Meet your speaker, Jim Charlier! Jim is the creative force behind JCharlier Communication Design, a  graphic design studio celebrated for its diverse portfolio, from logos and print advertising to TV commercials and published books. His artistic talent has garnered acclaim, earning him numerous regional and national awards. Beyond his graphic design endeavors, Jim actively contributes to the botanical community. He serves as a board member for the  Buffalo & Erie Botanical Gardens and has previously held the position of president of Garden Walk Buffalo , America’s largest garden tour. Jim is also a key figure in the Gardens Buffalo Niagara’s Garden Art Sale, serving as co-chair. As an international speaker, Jim shares his expertise in horticultural tourism and garden design, captivating audiences with his insights. His latest book, Harry Potter: Herbology Magic: Botanical Projects, Terrariums, and Gardens Inspired by the Wizarding World, features more than 25 engaging DIY projects inspired by the beloved film series, complemented by invaluable gardening insights. Collaborating with garden writer Sally Cunningham, he co-authored Buffalo Style Gardens, Create a Quirky, One-of-a-Kind Private Garden with Eye-Catching Designs, a definitive guide that promises unique and captivating garden designs. In addition to book writing, his garden photography has appeared in many garden books and magazines nationally. Venture to Lancaster Avenue during Garden Walk Buffalo and Open Gardens in July, and you’ll have the opportunity to explore Jim’s own garden—with a Harry Potter Garden and a perennial favorite that has graced the pages of numerous publications, including This Old House magazine. For a glimpse into his green thumb adventures, Jim maintains a longstanding garden blog at ArtofGardening.org, chronicling his passion for horticulture and design.
