A Whiskey Deemed Worthy

From the organizer (Note: end time is approx.): A Whiskey Deemed Worthy offers a unique tasting adventure Mark Twain said, “Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.” And the writer Raymond Chandler once observed, “There is no bad whiskey. There are only some whiskeys that aren’t as good as others.” Well, how do you know a good whiskey when you taste it? Experience! Whiskey lovers and the whiskey curious are invited to walk into the world of “liquid sunshine” at the Akron Civic Theatre’s A Whiskey Deemed Worthy on Friday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m. Patrons will have their choice of four standard-serving-size pours from among 18 American whiskeys: 1. Four Roses Small Batch 2. Four Roses Single Barrel 3. Widow Jane 4. Rabbit Hole Daringer Sherry Cask 5. Buffalo Trace 6. Cleveland Whiskey – Bridge and Main 7. Cleveland Whiskey – Cleveland Underground Black Cherry 8. Cleveland Whiskey- Magic Rabbit 9. Woodford Reserve Rye 10. Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight 11. Heavens Door Straight Revival 12. Blantons Restaurants Participating: Gardner's Pies, D'Agnese Whitepond, Marquees, Indulge Chocolates and Chef John from Totally Baked. Tickets are $60. Patrons must be 21 or older to attend the event. “Whiskey tastings are a great way to try a variety of new bourbons and whiskeys at a reasonable price and discover the nuances of each pour,” said Valerie Renner, associate director of programming, media and marketing at the Akron Civic Theater. “In the tradition of the Civic’s annual Pints & Pies Craft Beer & Pizza Festival and Wine, Cheese and Chocolate, Darling! tasting events, A Whiskey Deemed Worthy will invite our guests into a wider world of the whiskey experience.” A good whiskey-tasting experience engages all the senses. Tasters usually begin with observing the color of the whiskey. The darker the whiskey, usually the richer the taste. Next, move to its aromas and flavors, looking for notes that range from spices, sweets and grains to woods, fruits and florals. “Mouthfeel” also plays an important role: is this whiskey hot, viscous, dry, creamy, chewy? Even the sense of sound comes into play as the taste of a delicious whiskey elicits the universal expression of satisfaction: “Ahhhh!” Attendees will receive a program booklet at the event that walks them through the tasting experience and provides background information on all of the featured spirits. “Never cry over spilt milk,” advised Bret Maverick of the classic Western TV series. “It could’ve been whiskey.” TICKET INFORMATION General Admission: $60.00
